We are not here to follow the market—we are here to define it. As C&I energy storage accelerates, Solarbridge is scaling fast and looking for Director of system engineering who can open doors, close complex deals, and build a repeatable growth engine with integrators and EPCs across North America.

Responsibilities

We are looking for a technically proficient and detail-oriented Controls Engineer to support the controller architecture for C&I and small utility Microgrids with natural gas generators, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and Photovoltaic (PV) solutions. This role focuses on developing controller hardware specifications and associated protocol technical proposals, system configurations, and performance analyses to support equipment sales.

  • Collaborate with sales teams to understand customer needs and translate them into technical solutions. 

  • Develop detailed technical proposals for BESS and PV solutions, including system architecture, product selection, and performance modeling. 

  • Specify MV equipment such as transformers, switchgear, and protection systems 

  • Evaluate grid interconnection requirements and ensure compliance with utility standards (IEEE 1547, UL 1741, etc.). 

  • Work with R&D teams to ensure alignment between proposed solutions and product capabilities. 

  • Support responses to RFPs/RFQs with accurate and compelling technical documentation. Ensure designs meet customer specifications, site constraints, and applicable standards. 

  • Participate in customer meetings and presentations to explain system capabilities and value propositions. 

  • Provide market feedback to product teams regarding trends, customer needs, and competitive positioning. 

  • Support modeling of grid impact and system behavior under various operating conditions. 

  • Analyze system performance and degradation based on customer application. 

  • System Design and Engineering: Support EPC contractors in designing and engineering commercial and industrial solar systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.

  • Product Development: Collaborate with product and R&D teams to develop and improve solar products and services. 

  • Industry Research: Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and regulations, applying this knowledge to improve business operations.

  • Codes and Regulatory: Stay updated on codes and regulatory changes to advise the company on compliance and business opportunities.

  • Thought Leadership: Represent the company as a solar expert, presenting at industry events and contributing to industry publications.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with a focus on power systems or power electronics from an accredited university. 

  • 5+ years of experience in commercial and/or residential solar energy combined.

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in the testing and product support of  energy storage technologies.

  • Familiarity with evaluating products for compliance with UL 1741, IEEE 1547, UL 9540, UL 9540A and including NEC Knowledge.

  • Strong understanding of Modbus RTU and Canbus protocol is highly preferable. 

  • Preferred industry-recognized certifications (e.g. NABCEP).

  • Strong technical knowledge of solar systems, design, and installation. 

  • Excellent communication, training, and presentation skills.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing industry conditions.


Preferred Qualifications 

  • Excellent communication skills and experience in customer-facing technical roles. 

  • Familiarity with UL9540, UL1741, IEEE 1547, NFPA 855, and other relevant standards. 

  • Experience with PSCAD, SCADA, EMS, and control system integration.
